Lucas D. Crater - Assistant General Counsel
Luke Crater serves as Assistant General Counsel at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He is responsible for matters involving governmental affairs; student affairs; information requests and matters related to management and release of confidential information; various contracts, affiliation agreements, memorandums of understanding, licensing agreements; purchasing; and bankruptcy, among other things. Mr. Crater also assists in compliance, contract, and research matters at the School of Medicine in Springfield. Prior to his appointment as Assistant General Counsel, he served as the Law Clerk in the Office of the General Counsel.
Prior to his pursuits in the field of law, Mr. Crater served in the Illinois Office of the Governor, initially as a Dunn Fellow for the Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Policy Advisor for Environment and Natural Resources and later as the Governor’s Travel Aide. He also served in a number of extensive governmental internships including at the White House, the United States House of Representatives, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Mr. Crater is a graduate of Valparaiso University with a B.A. in political science and history, as well as minors in economics and human biology. He obtained his J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law. Mr. Crater has served on the City of Carbondale Planning Commission and is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys and the Illinois State Bar Association.
