JO BETH WEBER—ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL
Jo Beth Weber serves as Associate General Counsel at Southern
Illinois University in Carbondale. Ms. Weber received her
bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois.
Ms. Weber began her legal career as a staff attorney for the State
Appellate Prosecutor where she was responsible for researching and
writing criminal appellate briefs on behalf of the People of the State
of Illinois in the southern 37 counties of Illinois. During that
time, she also appeared and argued cases at the Fifth District Appellate
Court. Ms. Weber also worked for four appellate judges (Henry
Lewis, Gordon Maag, Terrence Hopkins, James Wexstten) on the Fifth
District Appellate Court where she was responsible for researching and
writing appellate court opinions and advising appellate judges on
various issues.
Ms. Weber is responsible for various matters including litigation
management; student affairs; governmental affairs; Freedom of
Information Act requests; matters related to the management and release
of confidential information; Family Educational Privacy Rights Act
matters; preparing and negotiating contracts on behalf of the
University; purchasing and procurement issues; bankruptcy; policy
review, and various other legal issues.
Ms. Weber is a member of the Board of Trustees for Crossroads Community
Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. She is also a member of the
Jefferson County Bar Association and serves as President of the Board of
Directors for the Woman's Hope Center. Ms. Weber is currently
involved in starting a Teen Court. Ms. Weber attends Central
Christian Church where she teaches a small group for high school
students and Sunday School for children.
