Volunteers are very important at SIUC Head Start! A variety of volunteer opportunities are available, such as:

• In the classroom
• On field trips
• At mealtime
• Reading to or playing with children
• Assisting teachers or other staff
• Participating in parent meetings, special events and activities
• Office duties, such as copying, filing, preparing mailings, answering phones, etc.
• Recruitment

Regular volunteers must complete Department of Children and Family Services background checks, be fingerprinted and complete a physical exam. There is no education requirement to volunteer at SIUC Head Start.

SIUC Head Start staff support and supervise all parent and community volunteers, working closely with them to make sure that standards are followed and they succeed with their volunteer experiences.
