IST Application
Dear Prospective Information Systems Technologies Student:
Thank you for your interest in the Information Systems Technologies (IST) major at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
If you decide to pursue this opportunity, the first step would be to apply for admission to Southern Illinois University Carbondale and supply official transcripts to the office of Admissions and Records (OAR) for evaluation of transfer credit. That application can be obtained from the OAT website http://www.admissions.siu.edu. At this site, see the enclosed steps for Admission, Advisement, and Registration information page. As part of this process, you will request IST as your major.
The IST program is a selective admission program. Your request for the program will be assessed during the admission process so that you can be notified right away of your acceptance to the IST major. An ACT of 23 or higher is required for entering college Freshman. If you are a transfer student with more than 32 hours of college credit, you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or better. If you have a special circumstance for which neither of these standards applies, please contact the ISAT academic advisor to discuss your situation. The academic advisor, Elaine Atwood, may be contacted by telephone at (618) 453-7200 or by email at atwood@siu.edu.
If you are accepted to SIU but do not meet the requirements for admission to IST, you will be admitted to the University as an undeclared major. If your goal is still to be in the IST program, you may come to SIU and begin working to attain the 2.7 GPA minimum. Careful selection of coursework at this time can help keep you on track toward your future admission to the IST program. Please contact Ms. Atwood to discuss this strategy.
