ISAT selected as a member of the Microsoft Dynamics Academic Alliance (MDAA) Program

Stephen C. Shih has written a successful proposal that has helped garner SIUC membership in the Microsoft Dynamics Academic Alliance (MDAA) program and capture a substantial "gift in kind" (GIK) of software and technical support to SIUC's School of Information Systems and Applied Technologies within the College of Applied Sciences and Arts. Only a small number of universities across the nation are selected as MDAA members. With a fair market value of $725,773, the GIK received by SIUC includes an extensive collection of enterprise systems software packages: Microsoft Dynamics NAV, GP, and AX.

Those packages feature a collection of enterprise business programs in financial management, analytics, supply chain management, and customer relationship management. The cutting-edge software programs will enable our students to develop, design and manage enterprise systems pertaining to finance, human resources, healthcare management, manufacturing applications and much more. Those tools will provide our graduates with a competitve edge as they prepare to enter the job market.

This GIK will mark a very positive change in the IST program and help guide the future of ISAT. There are three progressive implementation phases of Microsoft Dynamics software adoption in the IST curriculum. In Phase I, the Microsoft Dynamics packages will be integrated into IST 334, IST 412, and IST 415. As an important groundwork, an instructional and learning laboratory environment will be established in Fall 2008.

Phase II involves a full-blown implementation of Microsoft Dynamics software via creating new coourses in the IST program. Finally, the three-to-five year goal is to develop a new "integrated Enterprise Systems" program that will be launched through building the new curriculum around the Microsoft Dynamics solutions.

State Farm Donations

The State Farm® Companies Foundation donated more than $44,000 to update and enhance technology programs at SIUC.  Paul Sarvela, dean of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts and Department of Management chair, Greg White accepted a symbolic check from State Farm a representative Pete Oglesby at a news conference and lab tour Tuesday, April 15.  The School of Information Systems received $23,600 of the donation to purchase equipment to enhance the network and network security laboratories.

State Farm Donation ceremony

ISAT director, Will Devenport, said his school is "very appreciative of the continued support of the State Farm Companies Foundation. For years our partners at State Farm have provided internship experiences for our students, hosted company visits for faculty and students, served on our advisory committees, hired our graduates and provided much-needed financial support for scholarships and equipment. Their generous donation this year has given a very good boost to our network security laboratory curriculum."
