The Office of Major Scholarship Advisement (OMSA) provides advising and application assistance for all Southern Illinois University Carbondale students interested in pursuing major nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships.
A strong academic record is a minimum requirement for becoming a candidate for a major scholarship or fellowship. In addition to an excellent academic record, you should have an outstanding record of service, leadership, research, or all of the above. These scholarships are extremely competitive. Each scholarship will require strong letters of recommendation by faculty members at SIUC to be competitive for these awards.
Many of the major scholarships and fellowships require nomination from SIUC, which will require an on-campus selection process. To begin the process to become a major scholarship candidate, the preliminary Major Scholarship and Honors Application Form, including the Major Scholarship Essay, must be completed and returned to Laurie Bell, Assistant Director University Honors Program, in Faner Hall, room 2513.
All of the major scholarships and fellowships listed on this site require an extensive period of preparation before a student will be able submit an application. Accordingly, students should contact the SIUC Office of Major Scholarship Advisement well in advance of the campus deadlines.
Be sure to take advantage of the many tips and resources given on this site to assist in preparing successful scholarship and fellowship applications.
