Faculty
Director of the School of Music, Professor with tenure, Southern
Illinois University Carbondale. Starting Date: July 1, 2008.
Application deadline: November 1, 2007, or until filled.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in music;
evidence of the capacity for successful administrative work; experience
with NASM standards and accrediting criteria; ability to work cordially
and productively with faculty, staff, and students of diverse backgrounds;
successful academic experience with responsibilities in areas such as personnel,
curriculum, and recruitment and exceptional interpersonal and writing skills.
Preference will be given to candidates with successful music administrative
experience in a comparable setting. Candidates must meet the requirements
for tenure at the rank of full professor in SIUC’s School of Music.
Duties: The successful candidate for the Director’s position will provide
visionary leadership and guidance for a highly motivated and dynamic
faculty and staff, working with them to implement the School’s curriculum,
and its artistic and outreach programs. The Director will oversee all
instructional, budgetary, programming, and personnel matters. Exceptional
interpersonal and writing skills are necessary, as the successful candidate
will lead the School by enhancing its reputation and visibility in the state
and nation through advocacy, public relations, and fund raising. The
Director will provide leadership for the School’s extensive outreach work
and collaborative academic and artistic activities within the community and
the region. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.
