NSS Constitutions
Constitutions of THE NEPALESE STUDENTS SOCIETY
Whereas, Nepalese students in Southern Illinois University at Carbondale have felt a need of an organization to:
- Promote close co-operation among Nepalese.
- Promote educational and cultural activities.
- Promote international understanding of Nepal by exchanging ideas with students from other countries
Be this constitution of the Nepalese Students Society (NSS) in Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) enacted.
ARTICLE I: NAME
The name of this organization shall be the NEPALESE STUDENTS SOCIETY (NSS).
ARTICLE II: MEMBERSHIP AND DUES
There shall be two categories of members: a regular member and an associate member.
Any currently enrolled SIUC student or a member of the family of a student may become a regular
member upon the payment of an annual membership fees of $5., and other person may
become an associate member upon the payment of an annual associate membership fees of $10.
The family of a student, for this purpose, shall include parents, spouse, children, brother and sisters.
Only regular members shall be eligible to be elected an officer or an executive member.
Any Regular of Associate Member may be admitted as a Life Member upon the payment of a Life
Membership Fee of $200. A Life Member shall be eligible to be elected to the executive
committee while he/she is a student or a member of a student’s family.
ARTICLE III: OFFICERS
- President and Secretary/Treasurer shall be officers of the Society.
- The President shall preside at all meetings of the Society and of the Executive Committee and shall have general supervision of the affairs of the Society.
- The Vice President shall perform such duties and have such powers as the Executive Committee may, from time to time, delegate to him or her. In the absence of the President, Vice President shall perform the duties of the president.
- The Secretary/Treasurer shall keep a book of minutes of all meetings and give notice of general meeting to general and associate members at least one month prior to such meeting to general and associate members at least one month prior to such meeting, shall receive, and be custodian of, all funds of the Society, pay all bills upon authorization of the Executive Committee, an prepare an annual report for the general meeting.

ARTICLE IV: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
- The Executive Committee of the Association shall be composed of the President, the Vice President and the Secretary/Treasure and 2 members, who shall be elected from among the regular members.
- The Executive Committee Shall be elected each year by the simple majority of members present in the annual general meeting.
- Any member of the executive Committee may resign from the position in a special general meeting called for the purpose. The general meeting shall also elect another new executive member (S) for the remainder of the term.
ARTICLE V: MEETING
- The annual general meeting of the Society shall be held before the end of September each year.
- A special general meeting may be called anytime by either the Executive Committee or in the written request of other five members of the Society.
- The notice of annual general meeting shall be given at least one month prior to the meeting and notice of special general meeting shall be given at least 1 week prior to the meeting.
- Three-fourths of the current members shall constitute a quorum for general meeting.
ARTICLE VI: AMENDMENTS
Two-thirds of the members present at a general meeting shall have the power to make, alter, amend or repeal the articles of this constitution.
