The Plant and Soil Science program in
the Department of Plant, Soil, and Agricultural Systems offers many
wonderful
opportunities to students pursuing careers in areas of agriculture such
as:
Landscape Design and Ornamental Horticulture
Greenhouse and Nursery Management
Turf Management
Soil Science
Plant Biotechnology
Vegetable and Fruit Production
Soil Fertility Management
The Plant and Soil Science program prepares students for "real world"
career positions in such places as landscape design companies, commercial
greenhouses, nursery and garden centers, golf courses, or colleges and
government agencies. The program also helps prepare students for
advanced education and graduate school should they choose to continue
their education, and even offers graduate
degrees.
The Plant and Soil Science program
combines outstanding, nationally recognized
faculty, opportunities for practical experience such as
internships and
student work, and a wealth of student
organizations with a flexible curriculum that students can customize
to fit their specific career goals. One significant way that
students can customize their curriculum is by declaring a
specialization. The
specializations for the Plant and Soil Science program are:

General: A broad-based curriculum that supports students in all areas of
Plant and Soil Science.
Landscape Horticulture: Trains those interested in landscape design,
installation, and maintenance.
Business: For those who plan careers in business and industry as sales
representatives, managers, and owners.
Science: Prepares students for technical careers and/or graduate study.
Environmental Studies: Concentrates on environmental issues, such as
pollution and reclamation, and their relationships to plants and soils.
By providing students with exceptional academics
and numerous opportunities to develop experience and interpersonal skills,
the Plant and Soil Science program hopes to create students who are ready
to face the challenges of the "real world" and who can compete confidently
with graduates from any other university in the U.S.
