The Ph.D in Rehabilitation program at the Rehabilitation Institute
has a long tradition as a student-centered research program.
While there are opportunities to pursue additional clinical
training through our program, historically, students have
been encouraged to focus on enhancing their ability to conduct
independent scholarly research.
SIUC
is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement
of Teaching as a Doctoral/Research University--Extensive (the
highest category).
The Rehabilitation Institute at SIUC is a multi-faceted
educational unit that consists of four distinct graduate training
programs: Behavior Analysis and Therapy, Rehabilitation Administration,
Rehabilitation Counseling, and Communications Disorders and
Sciences. Each program admits and supervises its own doctoral
students and students choose a faculty advisor/dissertation
chair from within the faculty of one of these programs.
Each graduate training program at the Rehabilitation Institute
has its own strengths, history, and areas of specialization,
but all of our programs are recognized as leaders in their
specific areas of focus. Our programs in Behavior Analysis
and Therapy, Rehabilitation Administration and Services, and
Rehabilitation Counselor Training are among oldest and most
respected programs in the United States. Two of our programs
were the “first of their kind.”
The Rehabilitation Institute continues to be unique in that
it is the largest program of its kind with the largest complement
of Rehabilitation faculty members in the world.
