Level 1 - Autism Spectrum Disorders Assessment Parents may initiate contact with The Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (CASD) regarding a concern that their child might have an autism spectrum disorder. Children are scheduled for a Level 1 interdisciplinary assessment that includes a parent completed case history, child observation, and parent interview to determine the likelihood of an autism spectrum disorder. Those children who either show behaviors consistent with an autism spectrum disorder during
the Level 1 assessment or already have a diagnosis on the spectrum are invited for a more in-depth Level 2 assessment to confirm the presence of autism.
Level 2 - Autism Spectrum Disorders Assessment
If either the Level 1 autism assessment suggests a possible autism spectrum disorder or the family presents a written report from another professional indicating an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis, the child will be eligible for our Level 2 assessment. This assessment includes formal observational assessment of the child for the characteristics of autism. In addition, there might be a parent interview. Children with a confirmed autism spectrum disorder may be eligible for services by the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders. All children, either with or without a confirmed autism spectrum disorder, will be referred as appropriate.
Level 3 - Co-morbid Disorders Assessment
During Level 1 or 2 assessment, concerns might arise that children present characteristics of a disorder other than or in addition to autism. These concerns will be discussed with parents, who might be encouraged to seek further diagnostic assessment as appropriate.
