Southern Illinois University Carbondale recently unveiled what many agree is the most comprehensive college Student Health Center in the nation. The new facility, located adjacent to the Student Recreation Center, was developed under the premise of integrating all health services once scattered around campus in a single location. These services are now centrally located to efficiently address each student’s individual health care needs.

For years the Student Health Center has been known for delivering exceptional and responsive care to SIUC students. However, our health programs have had to make due with archaic facilities that were not originally constructed to provide health care. The new facility is designed specifically for its purpose, which greatly expands the possibilities of what we can do to help keep students healthy.

The future of health care at SIUC has arrived. The new 57,000 square foot facility will dramatically improve the quality of care for students. The new facility features new services including optometry and dermatology. It integrates the Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine programs and expands the travel program. It makes it easier for staff to coordinate services with different programs and service areas. The Center is more flexible, adaptive and modern and this facilitates the continuous delivery of leading edge care. By providing all services in one location, we have improved quality, safety and efficiency of care for students.

The new facility reflects a comprehensive approach to health care and health promotion. From clinical care, to medications, to mental health counseling, to sports medicine, to immunizations, to dental care, the Student Health Center provides it all. This is a tremendous benefit to patients but it is also a superb facility for teaching the next generation of health and wellness professionals.
