Prevention Efforts Include:
SHORT-TERM COUNSELING
Individual sessions (1-6 meetings) with counselor to assess use of substances; behavioral motivation strategies to reduce or stop drinking or other drug use. Call for confidential appointment 536-4441.
SUPPORT GROUPS
Every semester an ongoing Student Support Group is possible for individuals who want to voluntarily reduce or stop substance use. Please call 536-4441 for interview to join a group.
STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Student Assistance Program offers free sessions for SIUC students referred by Housing or City of Carbondale for violations. There is no cost at this time for these services for SIUC students. Community members who are arrested for underage violations must attend similar educational sessions in Carbondale for a fee. Please call 536-4441 to sign up.
INDIVIDUAL COMPUTER LEARNING
"Alcohol 101" - A CD-Rom computer program that features a virtual bar where students can learn more about how alcohol affects the body. Physical, social and mental aspects of alcohol are explored in an environment where students make must make decisions. entertaining video clips educate about alcohol poisoning, DUI, sexual assault and other topics.
