1. Show you care and that you want to help them quit
2. Provide your friend with a survival kit of low-calorie munchies: carrot sticks, gum, cinnamon sticks, etc.
3. Don’t preach, nag or threaten
4. Be available in person or by phone to talk
5. Get other people to help support your friend
6. Be a cheerleader - offer praise, encouragement, and congratulations Schedule activities to minimize temptations to smoke (i.e. go to a movie instead of going to a bar)
7. Reward their accomplishments
8. Be an understanding friend
