A resolution has been introduced in the House of Representatives (H.Res 987) to immediately consider the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 147) that repeals the government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) penalties. For those of us who worked someplace other than the university and who paid social security on that income, this bill (H.R. 147) could mean that we might be able to get the social security income we have paid into the system, something we can’t do now because of GPO and WEP.
