What is a Student Involvement Transcript?
The Student Involvement Transcript (SIT) was developed to highlight your involvement in out-of-classroom learning at SIUC and serves as a great addition to your resume. The Student Involvement Transcript officially documents involvement and activities, including the dates of participation, for academic related volunteerism, community service and outreach, university service, organizational involvement, and leadership experience.
What is the benefit of the SIT?
Studies have shown that employers prefer to hire students with experiences in out-of-classroom activities over those who focused on class work only. The SIT is an excellent tool for documenting this out-of-classroom education to graduate and professional schools, as well as potential employers, and thus allows the involved student to stand out in competitive venues. Career Services recommends that all students have the SIT on file in their office.
What is the cost of the SIT?
It’s FREE! However, the student must take the initiative to submit the necessary documentation and make the request to our office.
When is the best time to request the SIT?
Although the student must submit information/documentation regularly for filing purposes, we suggest that students wait until the semester prior to graduation to request the SIT. This will help ensure that all involvement activities are included in the final document.
How do I request the SIT?
To request the SIT, go to our webpage (www.siu.edu/~studdev), click on Volunteer Programs, then on Request for Involvement Transcript. Download and complete the form. Call Student Development at 453-5714 to set up an appointment to meet with the staff of Saluki Volunteer Corps. The information on the request form is necessary for the completion of the transcript. We will review your volunteerism record and the request form.
How long does it take to receive the SIT?
Please allow one week for processing requests. Every document is individually prepared and printed on resume paper and bears the Saluki Volunteer Corps seal.
Remember, “College is not a spectator sport…Get involved!” So, get involved in Student Development programs, document that involvement with our office, and then request the SIT to showcase your achievements and impress your future employer and/or graduate school!!
