Academic Collaboration / Service Learning

There are several definitions of service-learning.  Almost all of them share the view that this pedagogy involves having a structured service project that is integral to a particular course.  Faculty in higher education across the country have creatively utilized this concept to enhance student learning, and also to implement the idea of service across academic disciplines.

Service Learning Library

As an institutional member of Campus Compact for Community Service, SIUC receives a number of publications related to service-learning.  We have also purchased some good materials over the years to have available to faculty.  These are all housed in the Service-Learning Resource Library located in Student Development, 3rd floor of the Student Center. The library has an excellent collection of books, academic journals, tool kits, and sample syllabi to help faculty interested and involved in service-learning. We also have a binder of articles written by scholars and researchers in the field. Faculty are welcome to check out the materials for a four week period. Faculty are also welcome to come and review the books and publications in the Student Development office.

A list of the books and publications in the library can be found on the navigation bar to the left.
