Aldose Reductase-Like-1 Antibody
Project Leader: Deliang Cao
Unit: School of Medicine, Springfield - Dept. of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology
Brief Description:
The isolated Aldose Reductase-Like-1 (ARL-1) antibody is highly active and very specific to the ARL-1 protein. High levels of the ARL-1 protein strongly correlate to human liver and lung cancer. The expression of ARL-1 in cancer cells has recently been linked to increased resistance to the anti-tumor drugs known as anthracyclines, making an additional means of treatment necessary. The ARL-1 antibody could provide this treatment through its high activity and chemoprevention applications.
Patent Status:
Patent application pending.
Potential Commercial Uses:
The ARL-1 antibody has potential commercial use in early detection and diagnosis of liver and lung cancer. The antibody may also have some therapeutic applications in these cancers. However, further clinical research is needed to develop these applications.
