Brief Description:
This invention involves novel carbon composite materials, more specifically carbon composite materials that include silicon carbide and have improved oxidation resistance and carbon friction performance, particularly in a humid environment. Nanocrystalline silicon carbide regions are distributed throughout the carbon matrix. The invention also includes a method of producing these composite materials.

Potential Commercial Uses:
Potential uses include composite materials for brake applications, clutches, and similar friction-related applications.
