As a faculty member at SIUC, you will most likely be asked at some point to provide a letter of
reference, or to be listed as a reference, for one or more of your students. We have included the
following guides in order to provide helpful information in which you may refer to for writing
student reference letters. In addition, our staff is available to assist your students with all aspects of obtaining references, including: who to list as a reference, how to attain permission from possible references, time guidelines to keep in mind when asking for a reference, what references should say, how to write a reference page, and when to submit a reference list to a prospective employer.
