Message from the Provost
Greetings! Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a comprehensive research university that offers a vast array of excellent undergraduate and graduate academic programs on one of the most attractive campus settings in the United States. Students from every state in the union and 119 different countries come to Carbondale to learn, interact, and pursue their future goals and directions. SIUC is classified as a Doctoral-Research Extensive University, one of only 102 public universities that holds this prestigious designator.

SIUC is a large family with over 22,000 students and approximately 200,000 graduates located throughout the world.

SIUC is well known for its diverse student population. The University has a history of success and commitment to faculty and student diversity, individuals with disabilities, and international students.

SIUC has a large and varied library with award-winning collections in many areas. It is currently ranked as one of the top 100 research libraries in the nation.

SIUC's faculty represents a talented group of individuals with exceptional academic and professional credentials. Over 90% of the tenure and tenure-track faculty possess the doctorate or terminal degree in their field.

SIUC faculty and staff generated $66,500,000 in grants and contracts, which places us close to the top 100 of all universities in the country.

SIUC offers degrees in 91 undergraduate programs and 97 graduate and professional programs. Many of our programs are nationally recognized and certified by professional and academic accrediting bodies.

As reported by US News & World Report, our students graduate with one of the lowest amounts of debt among national doctoral universities. Over $160 million dollars in financial aid and scholarships is awarded annually to SIUC students.

The 'Princeton Review' named Southern Illinois University Carbondale's College of Business and Administration as one of the nation's "Best 282 Business Schools" for 2007.
