Mink habitat use along the Hudson River, New York

The reclusive nature of mink confounds the characterization of habitat that would be useful in management of this species. This project will evaluate differences in microhabitat characteristics associated with scent stations where mink have been observed and where mink are not observed. Forty remote field cameras will be randomly stationed at 120 mink scent stations constructed along 60 tributaries ≤ 6 km from the Hudson River, New York. Mink activity at scent stations will be recorded during 2 10-day observation periods between February and May 2007 and 2008. Following the camera observation period, microhabitat characteristics will be recorded at the scent station locations.
