How Can We Help You?                  SIUC Writing Center

Class Visits    Writing Center staff members are available to provide your classes with a brief overview of the Center's services.  Meeting a tutor can make students feel more comfortable about visiting an SIUC Writing Center for the first time. To request an introduction, simply fill out and send us a Writing Center Introduction Request Form or email us the equivalent information.  For further information on setting up an introduction, contact the Faner Writing Center at 453-6863 or write@siu.edu.

Outreach    Each semester, instructors of writing intensive classes may sign up for our Outreach Project.  For each Outreach session, a team of tutors enters the classroom to work with student groups on peer response and revision skills.  If you are interested in learning more about this project, please contact the Faner Writing Center at 453-6863 or its director, Dr. Jane Cogie at jcogie@siu.edu .

Syllabus and Assignment Files    We encourage instructors to file a copy of their syllabi and assignments at the Centers for reference during tutoring sessions.  You can email any assignments to write@siu.edu or drop them by any/all of four locations.

Handouts    We offer a wide variety of handouts on topics such as revising and editing, grammar and punctuation, sentence structure, invention, reading and study skills, and research.

Resource Texts    Handbooks, workbooks, rhetorics, anthologies and readers, guides to study and reading skills, technical writing guides, spelling resources, and documentation manuals are all available on our bookshelves in the Faner Writing Center.

Writing Center Website    This site includes a review of the Centers' mission and policies, links to handouts and other writing resources, information about services the Centers offer, and a grammar online service that allows users to email grammar-related questions directly to the Center.  Also available is a handout with tips on how students can make the most of their Writing Center visits.
