** Story of the Aardvark **
The Aardvark became Zoology Club's official mascot when SIUC professor Dr. Englert retired from teaching at the university. He was our club sponsor, so we dedicated an animal adoption at the St. Louis Zoo to him and allowed him to pick the animal. Out of the hundreds of critters at the zoo, he chose the Aardvark. Why? To this day we are not sure. It could be that he had always fancied the little guys. Or maybe their large ears and love for ants inspired the admired professor. Then again, maybe it was simply because they were the first on the list...the world may never know. But the reason does not matter. What counts is that we will remain true to our four-footed, sparsely-haired, insect-devouring friend.
