Point of Pride
The Department of Recreation formed in 1953 to train recreation professionals for service in public, volunteer, private, and commercial agencies. A master’s program was added in 1956 and this program pioneered the development of outdoor camping programs for people with disabilities. The program also maintains strong partnerships with numerous local, state and federal agencies and programs, providing service and experiential opportunities for students.
